Making an Impact: Bob Ackerman Endowed Graduate Fellowship Fund

Bob Ackerman

The Bob Ackerman Endowed Graduate Fellowship Fund was established to honor Professor Ackerman by supporting WSU Anthropology students’ research projects. The fund was created by Bea and David Taylor, who were graduate students in Anthropology in the 1960s and worked closely with Ackerman.

“Dr. Ackerman gave us the opportunity to do field work in Alaska, and we treasure the experiences,” the Taylors said. “The Anthropology department gave us financial assistance which allowed us to pursue our graduate studies. We wanted to give back, so created and funded this endowment.”

Since 2006, the fund has provided fellowship stipends for education-related expenses including tuition, fees, and research costs. The Taylors understand the importance of philanthropy, especially in higher education today, and they encourage others to also give back by adding to this fund so that more students can benefit.
